Título
EFFECT OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE REDUCTION ON PERIPAPILLARY VASCULAR DENSITY IN EYES WITH OPTIC DISC DRUSEN
Objetivo
This study aims to assess the effect of intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction on peripapillary and macular vascular density parameters from angiography optical coherence tomography (OCT) in eyes with optic disc drusen (ODD).
Método
Prospective, case-control study, with 6 months follow-up, including patients with ODD divided into two groups: control group (lubricating eye drop) and case group (latanoprost 50mcg/ml). Enhanced depth imaging-OCT with standard protocol (Spectralis; Heidelberg Engineering GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany) was used for ODD diagnosis. Data were collected at baseline and at 1, 3 and 6 months following the use of eyedrops.
Resultado
This ongoing study included until now, a total of 10 eyes (7 cases and 3 controls). We observed a significant change in IOP between groups (Table 1). However, we observed no significant changes in angiography OCT parameters (peripapillary and macular vessel density) (Avantis, Optovue, Fremont, CA) and measurements from retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex (Table 1).
Conclusão
Until now there is no evidence that lowering IOP can benefit patients with ODD. Our preliminary results have shown that after 6 months of IOP reduction using eyedrops no significant changes were observed in peripapillary and macular vessel density and measurements from retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex.
